Vote buying
I hope everyone has had a great holiday season so far with the New Year approaching quickly. Recently free television sets are being handed out to the poor, poverty stricken persons across India so far 60,000 sets have been handed out with thousands more. Someone who received a television set said, “I will always vote for DMK.” Can I say vote buying?

Free televisions were handed out ONLY in the province of Tamil Nadu and not “across India” as suggested in your blog.
The TV sets were handed out as a part of Campaign promise
Studies have shown that televisions are a great source of media communication, education and entertainment in rural parts. The result of that was the campaign promise made about 18 months back.
It is definetly viote buying, but who are you kidding? this is how politics is done there.

Ironically the nephew of the the Premier(called Chief Minister) in TN of DMK party owns SUN TV Network of Indian Channels in multiple languages and is considered one of the most profitable TV network in the world. he is also the Minister for communication(federal) but yeah, that has nothing to do with the TV’s.
The opposition had promised gold ring and gold chain to everyone if elected, because gold is seen as an investment in India!
I’m sure now you are thinking of moving to India! In most cases peopled dont get all these benefits. its lost in corruption and party workers benefiting. sad side of politics in India.

Thank you for the insight on Indian politics. I have always wanted to visit India and I love the food.
