America willing to chit-chat

Tuesday, March 13th, 2007

The United States government is open to bilateral talks with both Iran and Syria if either country approaches them to discuss stabilizing or remedying the ongoing crises situated in Iraq during an Iraqi government led conference between Iran, Syria, the United States and permanent members of the United Nations Security Council in Baghdad this week.

The very thought of U.S. and Iranian Officials meeting together in person has drawn me in due my interests in the histories of Ancient and Modern Iran/Persia. While the probability of such a meeting is rather low and the rarity of such an event is once in a life time due to the frivolous relations between the two nations since the United States’ sovereignty was breached when revolutionaries of the Iran’s Islamic Revolution stormed and killed American dignitaries and U.S. Marines protecting the embassy. This event led to the demise of Pahlavi dynasty and the end of a pro-United States government of Iran.

I don’t think Iran and the United States would reach an agreement on bringing a stable westernized democracy in Iraq especially under the unconditional support from the United States. The Ahmadinejad government and their predecessors have been quite critical of the United States’ foreign policy and their interventionist policies in the Middle East since September 11th. Stating this, I believe the unlikelihood of these two nations having direct contact in close quarters behind enclosed doors will not occur.

The Bush Administration on the other hand is plotting their next point of attack in the Middle East, Iran. The U.S. State Department has been quite crucial against the Iranian government for the development of nuclear energy due to the likeliness of the pursuit of nuclear armaments which would bring the region into grave calamity.

The State Department has also blurted out that Iran is a rogue state whom actively encourages and supports acts of terrorism, harbours fugitives suspected of these heinous acts and promotes the utter destruction of Israel’s sovereignty, providing arms and explosives to insurgency groups in Iraq & Afghanistan, and the persecution of those who follow the Jewish faith to list a few.

This conference will be interesting. If there is anything to write on it in the next couple of days, expect commentary from myself. I really don’t have much to say about the Syrians.

Kevin to come home

Monday, March 12th, 2007

Previously I’ve written on the detainment of a Canadian boy and his Iranian parents being held in a U.S. Detention Facility since they were traveling under stolen passports. There is an updated status on their request to gain temporary status to reside in Canada. It has been approved. Kevin and his parents are turning to Canada and hopefully when they file for refugee protection, they’ll be approved.

Allow Kevin to return

Tuesday, March 6th, 2007

A nine year old Canadian-born boy and his Iranian parents are currently being held at a United States Detention Facility outside of Austin, Texas. Kevin has serious case of eczema and asthma, his condition has eroded since his apprehension in Puerto Rico after a passenger on their flight from Guyana to Toronto suffered a mild heart attack.

The boy and his parents were traveling under stolen passports. I do not condone their illegal activities by stealing another’s identity to travel abroad under an assumed name. They’ve broken international law by committing these crimes, and are a probable threat to disallowing them to return to Canada.

The lawyer has laden out the family’s game plan to return to Canada. The lawyer will contact the government of Canada to grant them a permit to allow them into the country, where they’ll make official claims for refugee protection.

Kevin’s parents first came to Canada in 1995 for ten years they fought for asylum from the Canadian government. They were unsuccessful and were deported to Iran after starting a family. When they returned to Iran they faced torture and persecution and now they face indefinite detainment in an American detention centre. This plight was avoidable, the Canadian government could’ve granted them asylum which would have allowed them to live here freely.

The child feels hopeless, scared, and is desperate. He wrote Prime Minister Harper a letter to come to him and his family’s aid. This government is not compassionate about non-voting citizens. Issues such as this one shouldn’t be politicized, I know.

Switzerland invades Liechtenstein!

Friday, March 2nd, 2007

. . . Well not really. 170 Swiss Troops got lost last night during a routine training exercised. They realized they were in another country after they marched 1 mile. When will the neutral country show their true colours? Probably never. *sigh*
